Srishti – The Kathak Academy presents its Annual Dance Recital

Saturday, November 14, 2026 · 6:00 – 7:30 PM
Alfred G. Waters Middle School · Middletown, Delaware

Step into an evening of rhythm, grace, and storytelling. Srishti – The Kathak Academy presents Samarpan, its annual recital and a celebration of classical Indian dance in Delaware. This year, the Academy's dance is also a way to give back and to open a conversation about autism awareness, acceptance, and inclusion.

Samarpan is the Academy's yearly recital, led by Artistic Director Ananya Goswami. Each year, the beauty and discipline of Kathak are used to support the community and bring attention to meaningful causes. This year's theme is autism awareness, acceptance, and inclusion.

Through Kathak, music, rhythm, and movement, our students explore the many ways people communicate and express themselves, and how the arts can create opportunities for connection and participation. The highlight is an original Kathak pieces created for the evening, built around the theme "Different Rhythms, Different Expressions, One Community." It explores communication beyond words, individuality, connection, and inclusion.

The evening also includes:

  • A brief awareness presentation from a representative of Autism Delaware, sharing information on autism acceptance, community resources for Delaware families, and ways our community can become more inclusive.

  • Community resource materials from Autism Delaware available for families attending the recital.

  • Artistic demonstration connecting rhythm, music, movement, and dance with communication, self-expression, and participation. Dance and music are not presented as a cure for autism, but as supportive, inclusive ways for everyone to engage, express themselves, and connect.

  • Live percussion that drives the dialogue between rhythm and movement, with resonant foot bells, graceful spins, and expressive abhinaya guiding the audience through a journey of emotion.

  • A finale by Artistic Director Ananya Goswami, who trained under the legendary Late Padma Vibhushan Pt. Birju Maharaj Ji and Vidushi Saswati Sen Ji, along with many other renowned gurus.

Whether you are a dance enthusiast, a family looking for community connection, or someone who simply wants to experience the beauty of Kathak, we invite you to join us for an evening of learning, listening, and celebration.

Join us for this classical dance night where tradition meets artistry, and the spirit of Kathak shines in its purest form.
